The Park Centre is a welcoming community centre located in the heart of Kingswood, Bristol where various groups gather for group activities and social support. As well as this the centre has a café open to the public. The centre is a single story fully accessible building and is on a bus route to/from the town centre.
The centre is primarily run as a venue for hire for individuals, clubs, agencies, and organisations which provide activities, opportunities, and services to the community. These primarily cover education and training, social and recreational, health and fitness. Community groups have been formed for example the 50+ club. Other groups include self-help groups, community groups, and local business.
The Park Centre has been operational since 2005 over the years has grown from strength to strength, creating much needed social groups and activities for the community. The centre has a long and strong history and are often the result of residents taking social action to address a local need or problem.
We are now building on this history to develop the next generation of community centres so that these important spaces are maintained for generations to come. Yes, the online world is wonderful, but it cannot replace meaningful face-to-face interactions with people who share your same interests, values, and beliefs.
Over the last 18 years we have worked in partnership with local communities, employers, and commissioners to explore the skills that exist in the community and how these can and do complement the provision of services to people who need care and support.
We have a range of resources which demonstrate the learning we have found, and practical tools to help you embed community skills development. Staff and volunteers are immensely proud of the work that we have done to date. We have looked at community skills development works and how we can help and empower local people to understand how their skills and knowledge can be enhanced and shared to improve the wellbeing of others in their communities.
